HOPKINTON, N.H. (September 28, 2019) -- The Franklin Pierce University Women's cross country team held its annual home meet on Saturday, as the Ravens played host to six other schools in the seventh annual Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds. Junior Marissa Farago (Salisbury, Mass.) led the way, with a fifth-place finish (out of 73 runners), as Franklin Pierce took fifth place in the seven-team meet.

Farago crossed the line with a 5k time of 19:52.3, which put her just over a minute off the pace of the race winner, senior Jensie Madden of Bridgewater State (18:43.7). Two other Ravens collected top-20 finishes on Saturday. Sophomore Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) took 16th, with a time of 20:18.9, while senior Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) followed close behind in 19th, running a time of 20:39.4

Senior Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.) and freshman Nadia Cathcart (Hyde Park, N.Y.) rounded out Franklin Pierce's scoring five on Saturday, by placing 24th and 27th, respectively. Zylak ran a time of 20:58.3, while Cathcart crossed the line in 21:06.2. Narrowly behind the two was junior Lauren Stankiewicz (Naugatuck, Conn.), who also finished in the top 30, at 29th, with a mark of 21:08.2.

Saint Anselm put three runners in the top 10 and took home the trophy on Saturday, with a team score of just 49 points. The Hawks won fairly handily over Southern Connecticut State (77 points), which finished just one point in front of third-place Bridgewater State (78 points). New Haven (84 points) took fourth in front of Franklin Pierce, which finished with 91 points.

The Ravens will be off next week, but back in action on Saturday, Oct. 12, when they head north of the border for the Interlock Invitational in Montreal.
