Women's Basketball Earns No. 11 National Ranking in WBCA Academic Top-25 Poll

RINDGE, N.H. (July 13, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s basketball team was honored by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) on Wednesday as the Ravens earned a No. 11 national ranking in the WBCA Division II Academic Top-25 Poll. Franklin Pierce, which was the only school in the Northeast-10 Conference to appear in the rankings, earned a team GPA of 3.524 during the past academic year.
Jewel White Earns Pair of All-America Honors; Named to 2011 Daktronics Women's Basketball All-America First-Team

(March 23, 2011) -- Franklin Pierce University women's basketball standout Jewel White (Worcester, Mass.) on Tuesday evening earned a pair of All-America honors, including being named to the 2011 Daktronics All-America First-Team. She also received honorable-mention status from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and State Farm. White was the only player from the Northeast-10 Conference to earn All-America accolades from both organizations.

(March 11, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team's bid for a fourth-straight NCAA East Regional Championship came to a heart-breaking end on Friday afternoon as Brittany Shields hit a foul-line jumper with just :02 remaining to lift Pace to a 64-62 win over the Ravens in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament at the Dana Center in Waltham, Mass. The third-seeded Ravens concluded their 2010-11 season with a 24-8 record, while the sixth-seeded Setters improved to 23-8 and advanced to Sunday's second round versus either Holy Family or Goldey-Beacom.

By being named the region's top player, White was also placed on the Daktronics All-East Region First-Team.

RINDGE, N.H. (March 6, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team earned an at-large bid to the 2011 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament on Sunday night. The Ravens, who are coming off an appearance in this weekend's Northeast-10 Conference final, will be making their fourth-straight appearance in the national tournament. The Ravens earned the No. 3 seed in this year's East Regional and will take on the sixth-seed and NE-10 rival Pace University Setters in the first round on Friday.

The second-seeded Ravens improved to 23-6, while the seventh-seeded Purple Knights closed out their campaign with a strong 16-11 mark.
Women's Basketball Begins Defense of NE-10 Title; Plays Host to Saint Michael's on Tuesday at 7 PM

(February 27, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team will begin defense of its Northeast-10 Conference championship on Tuesday night when the Ravens play host to Saint Michael's in the 2011 quarterfinals at 7 p.m. in The Fieldhouse in Rindge. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $7 for adults, $4 for children and seniors, and $1 for college students. Franklin Pierce students who present a valid college ID at the door will have the cost of their ticket paid for, courtesy of the athletics department.

(February 25, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball program continued to add more impressive individual accolades to its history on Friday as junior center Jewel White (Worcester, Mass.) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year, and classmate Marielle Giroud (Martigny, Switzerland) was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year. By earning those top yearly awards, both players were named to the All-NE-10 First-Team for the first time in their careers.

(February 23, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team closed out its 2010-11 regular season Wednesday night with a 68-59 win over UMass-Lowell at the Costello Athletic Center in Lowell, Mass. The Ravens finished the regular season portion of the campaign with a 22-6 overall record and a 18-4 mark in the Northeast-10. The River Hawks fell to 9-17 and 8-14 in league play.

(February 19, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team notched its biggest win of the season on Saturday afternoon as the Ravens downed No. 17-nationally ranked Bentley, 90-87 in overtime, in The Fieldhouse in Rindge. The Ravens won their second-straight game to improve to 21-6 overall and 17-4 in the Northeast-10, while the Falcons dipped to 21-4 and 18-3 in league play.

(February 16, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team picked up its 20th win of the season on Wednesday night with a 74-61 triumph over Merrimack at Volpe Gymnasium in North Andover, Mass. The Ravens, who also swept the two-game regular season series from the Warriors, improved to 20-6 overall and 17-6 in the Northeast-10. Merrimack fell to 10-14 and 8-12 in league play.

(February 14, 2011) -- Franklin Pierce University junior forward Marielle Giroud (Martigny, Switzerland) was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for her two impressive performances last week. In two games last week, Giroud nearly averaged a triple-double as she posted averages of 12.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 9.5 assists per game.
