Softball Puts Three on CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. (July 20, 2021) -- The Franklin Pierce University softball team has had three players earn Academic All-District honors from College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as announced earlier this month. Senior pitcher Cyrena Zemaitis (Goshen, Conn.), senior infielder Gina Hinckley (Lancaster, Mass.) and graduate student infielder Madi Killebrew (Dana Point, Calif.) were all selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team. As a result of their selection, all three will also advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

Softball Season Ends in NE Division Finals as #18 Hawks Sweep Series

The no. 7 regionally-ranked Franklin Pierce University softball team’s 2021 season ended in the Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division Finals as they suffered two losses to no. 18 nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College in the best out of a three-game series, 2-0 in game one and 7-1 in game two.

The no. 7 regionally-ranked Franklin Pierce University softball program used contributions from the bottom of the lineup and a complete game shutout from senior Cyrena Zemaitis (Goshen, Conn.) as the Ravens shutout Assumption University 2-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals Thursday evening at Bisaccia Field.

Cangiano, Klaus Earn Major Awards; Softball Has Six Honored by NE10

MANSFIELD, Mass. (May 5, 2021) -- In a year of program firsts, the Franklin Pierce University softball team checked off another one on Wednesday afternoon, as the program earned its first-ever major end-of-season Northeast-10 Conference awards. The Ravens even did better than just their first, as the team picked up two major awards from the league office. Freshman outfielder Ashley Cangiano (North Attleboro, Mass.) was named as the NE10 Rookie of the Year, while head coach Andy Klaus took home Coach of the Year accolades in just his third season at the helm of the Ravens. In addition, Franklin Pierce picked up four All-NE10 selections and had a total of six individuals honored by the Conference.

Franklin Pierce University softball senior starting pitcher Cyrena Zemaitis (Goshen, Conn.) hurled an immaculate second inning and classmate Gina Hinckley (Lancaster, Mass.) walloped her 10th homer of the campaign as the Ravens held off a furious seventh-inning rally to defeat Stonehill College 7-6 in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship First Round Tuesday afternoon at Bisaccia Field.

Franklin Pierce University softball graduate third baseman Madi Killebrew (Dana Point, Calif.) was a nice 6-for-9 at the dish and hit a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning in game two as the Ravens split their final regular-season twinbill falling 4-3 in nine during game one before securing the 8-5 extra-inning victory in game two.

Softball Sweeps SNHU on Senior Day, 2-0 and 9-6

RINDGE, N.H. (May 1, 2021) – Saturday afternoon brought Senior Day to the Bisaccia Softball Field, along with a cross-state rivalry matchup against the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen. The Franklin Pierce University softball team made sure its seniors were celebrated in style, as the Ravens swept the Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader. In the first game, freshman right-hander Samantha Sylvester (Morris, Conn.) authored a five-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory. In the second game, freshman Ashley Cangiano (North Attleboro, Mass.) ripped a three-run triple as part of a five-run sixth, in a 9-6 win.

Hinckley Lifts Softball to Doubleheader Sweep of Stonehill, 4-3 and 8-0 (6 inn.)

April 27, 2021

EASTON, Mass. (April 27, 2021) – The bats were working again on Tuesday afternoon for the Franklin Pierce University softball team, which hit four home runs over the course of a doubleheader at Stonehill. Senior Gina Hinckley (Lancaster, Mass.) went deep in each end of the Northeast-10 Conference twinbill, as the Ravens posted a 4-3 win in the first game and an 8-0, six-inning victory in the second. Fellow senior Cyrena Zemaitis (Goshen, Conn.) tossed a three-hit, 11-strikeout shutout in the second game.

EASTON, Mass. (April 24, 2021) - The Franklin Pierce University softball team made it five wins in a row on Saturday afternoon, as the Ravens swept a doubleheader on the road against Northeast-10 Conference foe Stonehill. In the first game, graduate student Madi Killebrew (Dana Point, Calif.) went 3-for-3 with a double and a home run, and drove in five, as the Ravens posted a 7-1 victory. The second game went only five innings, as Killebrew and senior Gina Hinckley (Lancaster, Mass.) went deep in a 12-1 Franklin Pierce win.

RINDGE, N.H. (April 22, 2021) – It was a cold, but record-setting afternoon for the Franklin Pierce University softball team at the Bisaccia Softball Field on Thursday against Bentley. In the first game, graduate student left-hander Amelia Mamone (Averill Park, N.Y.) made her 86th career appearance in the circle for the Ravens, establishing a new program record in a 7-2 Franklin Pierce win. In the second game, Franklin Pierce hammered out 17 runs on 21 hits to win a wild, 17-13 affair, while graduate student Madi Killebrew (Dana Point, Calif.) drove in a school-record six runs.

Softball Splits Second Straight DH with No. 14 Saint Anselm

RINDGE, N.H. (April 20, 2021) – Just two days after the Franklin Pierce University softball team split a doubleheader on the road with the No. 14 nationally ranked Saint Anselm College Hawks, the Ravens were giving their in-state rivals trouble again on Tuesday. This time, the two met at the Bisaccia Softball Field at Franklin Pierce, and once again, the Ravens avenged a first-game loss with a second-game win. In the front end, senior Kat Stackrow went 4-for-4, scored twice and drove in three to lead the way in an 11-1, five-inning win for the Hawks. In the nightcap, senior right-hander Cyrena Zemaitis (Goshen, Conn.) chucked a three-hitter, and freshman Ashley Cangiano (North Attleboro, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple, as the Ravens put together a 2-1 victory.
