Killebrew, Cangiano Collect Player, Rookie of the Week

EASTON, Mass. (April 26, 2021) – Franklin Pierce University softball graduate student Madi Killebrew (Dana Point, Calif.) and freshman Ashley Cangiano (North Attleboro, Mass.) have been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player and Rookie of the Week respectively the league offices announced Monday afternoon.

Killebrew appeared in all six games for the Ravens helping her squad to a 5-1 record. The graduate third baseman slashed .529/.600/1.294 with three home runs, 13 RBI, five runs scored, two doubles, a triple, and a walk. In the Ravens 17-13 victory over Bentley on Thursday, Killebrew was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish coming up a single short of the cycle with a program single-game record six RBI. On Saturday she followed that up with a 3-for-3, homer, double, and five RBI performance in game one 7-1 victory at Stonehill. In the 12-1 game two win, Killebrew hit a round-tripper in her third straight game part of a 2-for-4 effort.

In 19 games this season, Killebrew is hitting .397 with three home runs, 17 RBI, 16 runs scored, and a steal. She ranks third in the NE10 in slugging percentage (.724), tied for fourth in RBIs (17), fourth in doubles (8) and deadlocked for fifth in homers (3).

Cangiano started and played in all six of the Ravens games this past week. The freshman utility player slashed .625/.647/1.125 with four doubles, two triples, five runs scored, five RBI. In the Ravens 2-1 win over nationally-ranked Saint Anselm, Cangiano was 2-for-2 with a two-bagger, a triple, an RBI, and a walk. She followed that up with a perfect day at the plate against Bentley combining to go 5-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, four RBI, and three runs scored.

It was Cangiano's second top rookie honor of the year as the newcomer ranks third in the conference in triples (4) and fifth in batting average (.404).

FPU (14-6, 13-5 NE10) hits the road for the final time this regular season for two at Stonehill College tomorrow, April 27th with first pitch at 2:30 and 5:00 p.m.
