Men's Lacrosse: Ravens Drop First Conference Game to No.11 Saint Anselm Hawks, 20-9

MANCHESTER, N.H. (3/5/2024) -- The Franklin Pierce Men's Lacrosse team dropped their first road and conference game of the season Tuesday evening to their in-state rivals Saint Anselm, 20-9.  

Score: Franklin Pierce 9, Saint A's 20 
Records: Franklin Pierce (3-1, 0-1 NE10); Saint A's (2-1, 1-0 NE10) 
Location: Grappone Stadium, Manchester, N.H. 
Date: Monday, March 5th, 2024 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Hawks offense started early with two goals in the first two minutes from Nick Larsen and Jake Davis.  
  • A minute after going down 2-0, the Ravens scored their first conference goal of the season after Ethan Cote (North Smithfield, R.I) buried his first goal of the game.  
  • However, the Hawks answered 30 seconds later thanks to Jack Andrews which would start a 5-0 goal run for the Hawks, tilting the score to 7-1.  
  • With under four minutes left in the first quarter, Ethan Cote notched his second goal of the game and got the Ravens back on the board making it 7-2.  
  • The Hawks closed out the first quarter with two more goals in the final minute from Mark Boyle and Davis, which extended their lead to 9-2. 
  • The Ravens were able to slow the Hawks for half of the second quarter, but that came to an end after Noah Larsen grabbed his second goal of the game, making it 10-2.
  • Three minutes later, Chase Lilly got in on the scoring, making it 11-2.  
  • The Ravens got one back from Cote who would pick up his hattrick goal making it 11-3.  
  • The Hawks rallied another goal less than a minute later from Chris Claflin to making it 12-3 heading into halftime. 
  • Scoring in the third quarter started five minutes in when Maverick Lyon chipped into the growing 13-3 Hawks lead.  
  • Some life was breathed into the Ravens offense after the team went on a 3-0 run with goals from Everett Hillman (Newington, Conn.), Conor Rooney (Wilmington, Mass), and Cote with his fourth goal of the game making it 13-6.  
  • Will Andrews ended the Raven run with a goal at the end of the third making it 14-6.  
  • In the first three minutes of the final frame, Conor Rooney cut the lead to 7 with a goal.
  • The Hawks swooped by with another 3 goal run to extend their lead to 17-7.  
  • Lance Star (Moretown, VT) made a coast to coast run to excite the Ravens and smoked a high bounce shot by the Hawks goalie to make it a 17-8 game.   
  • The Hawks followed with two quick goals from Ryan Weller and Jacob Caron making it 19-8. 
  • With under two minutes left, Conor Rooney scored his hat-trick goal making it 19-9.  
  • As the clock winded down, Nicholas Palermo scored the final goal of the game making it a 20-9 win for the Hawks.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • With the loss, Mike Masterpolo made 8 saves on 28. Anthony Kublik made 2 saves on 5 shots and picked up the win. Finn Granara and Will Davis also got time in goal making 6 combined saves 
  • Franklin Pierce was outshot by Saint A's 28-17 
  • The Ravens were 8-32 on faceoffs while the Hawks were 24-32.  

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: 

  • With the loss, the Ravens dropped their first conference game of the year. The Ravens stay on the road and face Bridgeport Tuesday, March 12th at 4 pm.
