HILLBURN, N.Y.  (March 16, 2018) – Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse senior midfielder Benjamin Lassow (Mansfield, Conn.) notched a hat trick (three goals) while fellow teammate and team captain Jack Carney (Dunbarton, N.H.) tallied two scores of his own as the Ravens defeated non-conference opponent Dominican (N.Y.) College 7-4 Friday afternoon at the Torne Valley Complex. With the victory, the Ravens soar to 2-0 on the young season while Chargers remain winless at 0-5.

Two of Lassow's three markers came during the man advantage. The Ravens were 2-for-3 (66.7%) with the extra man while FPU's man-down defensive unit stifled Dominican to only a 2-for-9 (22.2%) showing. Pierce attempted 10 more shots than their counterparts (39-to-29) and successfully cleared 13-of-14 (93%) clear chances.

Sean Delea (Hampstead, N.H.) and Matt Brewster (Merrimack, N.H.) recorded one goal apiece while Louis Palumbo (Commack, N.Y.) was 8-of-14 (57.1%) in the x and scooped up a match-high six groundballs. Freshman netminder Justin Lorenzo (Goshen, N.Y.) improved to 2-0 on the year as he made 11 saves in the cage.

For the Chargers, Michael Reyes led the way with two goals while goalkeeper Joseph Fabiilli stopped 14 shots.

There was no scoring for the opening 20 minutes of the showdown until Lassow cracked the scoring column on the UP chance at the 10:41 mark to break the deadlock. A few minutes later, Delea pushed the Ravens out in front 2-0 with his third goal of the campaign following a successful clear. Before the break, the hosts cut into the deficit as Chris Heegan found Evan Heegan who sniped home an attempt to make the score 2-1 at the midway point.

In the second half, both squads combined for a total of eight goals after the slow start to the first 30 minutes. 31 seconds into the third period, Reyes evened up the duel with his sixth marker of the season. Carney and Dominican's Christian Hernandez swapped scores to tie the match once again with 10 minutes to go in the third. A Brewster unassisted tally put the Ravens ahead for good as the Crimson and Grey outscored the Chargers 3-1 the rest of the way.

Franklin Pierce opens up their home schedule and hosts their only match during the month of March, Sunday when they welcome Northeast-10 Conference opponent American International College to Sodexo Field for a 1:00 p.m. game.
