BOXSCORE

RINDGE, N.H. (April 19, 2010) - The Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team gave a respectable showing in Monday's 15-5 setback to Le Moyne, which entered the game as the nation's top-ranked team. The Ravens fell to 4-5 overall and 1-5 in the Northeast-10, while the Dolphins improved to 11-0 and 8-0 in league play. Monday's game was played at Sodexo Field in Rindge.

Junior attack Nate Wood (Binghamton, N.Y.) scored four of the five goals to lead the Ravens' offensive attack, while freshman attack Brendan Cahill (Hollis, N.H.) added the other tally late in the contest.

Junior goalkeeper Shea Campbell (Centerport, N.Y.) started in goal for the Ravens and made 11 saves despite suffering the loss. Campbell also collected a team-high five ground balls during the contest.

Franklin Pierce collected 24 ground balls to Le Moyne's 23, and turned it over just 16 times while forcing the Dolphins into 13 miscues. The Ravens also did a solid job by converting 16-of-17 clear attempts.

Le Moyne was led by Vinnie Alexander, who threw in five goals on the afternoon. Mike Rabbitt had a three-point afternoon with a pair of goals and an assist on another.

Le Moyne got goals from Rabbitt and Alexander to open the game with a 2-0 lead seven-and-a-half minutes in. The Ravens responded with a goal near the end of the first period to pull within 2-1. Wood got the first of his four tallies in the sequence as he collected a pass on the right side of the goal, moved to the top of crease and fired a shot past the Le Moyne goalkeeper's stick handle.

The Dolphins tossed in two more goals in the opening stages of the second period to go up 4-1, but Wood fired another shot into the back of the net with 6:20 remaining in the half to cut Franklin Pierce's deficit to 4-2.

Le Moyne showed why it's the nation's top-ranked team at the Division II level as it scored four unanswered goals in the final 4:51 of the period to build an 8-2 lead at halftime. Two of those goals came just four seconds apart as Alexander and Corey Bulken scored at 2:54 and 2:50, respectively.

Both teams traded goals to open the third period as Keith Vetter scored for Le Moyne at the 13:59 mark and Wood answered with his third marker just nine seconds later to make it 9-3.

The Dolphins rallied and scored six-straight goals bridging the third and fourth periods to open up a commanding 15-3 advantage. Franklin Pierce didn't fold and played hard right until the end, thus scoring the game's final two goals. Wood scored with 3:11 to go to cap his remarkable day and Cahill threw in one with just 1:04 remaining to close out the scoring.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Wednesday when it travels to face Saint Anselm in Manchester at 4 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for this past Saturday, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
