Franklin Pierce Drops Home Finale to Merrimack, 14-2
RINDGE, N.H. (April 25, 2005) - The Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse team suffered a 14-2 setback to Northeast-10 Conference foe Merrimack College tonight in their home finale at Sodexho Field. The Warriors outscored the Ravens 7-1 in both halves en route to their seventh straight victory.
Freshman Chris Elia (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) racked up six points on a goal and five assists to lead the Merrimack offense. Senior Matt O'Neill (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) registered four points on three goals and a helper, while classmates Bryan Brazill (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Kurt Carlson (Lynn, Mass./Lynn English) added hat tricks.
Franklin Pierce got goals from junior co-captain Nick Cowden (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) and freshman Jordan Handy (Burlington, Vt./Burlington). Sophomore Ryan St. Cyr (Manchester, N.H./Trinity) added an assist to round out scoring for the Ravens.
Warriors freshman goalkeeper Eric Tompkins (Newington, Conn./Newington) saved four shots in the first half to earn the win. Sophomore Tim Travers (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) played the second half and stopped two shots. Franklin Pierce got a solid effort out of freshman Freeman Scott (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue), who made 20 saves in a losing effort.
The Ravens (1-9, 1-8 NE-10) wrap up their regular season slate at league foe Bryant University on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Merrimack (10-4, 8-1 NE-10) will host Northeast-10 Conference opponent American International College tomorrow at 3:30 p.m., to round out their regular season schedule.
