Franklin Pierce Holds on to Defeat American International, 14-10

Ravens pick up first win of season

RINDGE, N.H. (April 21, 2005) - The Franklin Pierce men's lacrosse earned its first victory of the season, defeating American International College 14-10 in Northeast-10 Conference action at Sodexho Field this evening.  With the win, the Ravens snapped a nine-game losing skid. They last found the winners column on April 26, 2004, when they upended Green Mountain College 16-14 in Poultney, Vt.

Junior Nick Cowden (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) broke a 4-4 tie with 7:29 remaining in the second quarter, starting a three-goal Franklin Pierce rally to close out the first half. The Ravens led 9-8 after three periods of play and outscored the Yellow Jackets 5-2 in the final frame to preserve the victory. Freshman Luke Ferreira (Farmington, Maine/Mt.Blue) led the way in the second quarter, netting three of the Ravens five markers.            

Ferreira finished the day with a season-high six goals, while Cowden added a hat trick and a pair of helpers for five points. Freshman Jordan Handy (Burlington, Vt./Burlington) also found the cage twice, as the Ravens racked up a season-best 14 goals.

Leading the way for American International was junior Ryan Robin (Prince Albert, Sask./Athol Murray), who tallied five goals. Freshmen Luke Consolini (West Springfield, Mass./Longmeadow) and Bryan Drury (Wilbraham, Mass./Cathedral) registered two goals apiece for the Yellow Jackets.

Ravens freshman goalkeeper Freeman Scott (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) stopped 18 shots en route to his first collegiate victory, while junior Preston Cicchine (Kitchener, Ontario/Eastwood Institute) made 19 saves in a losing effort for the Yellow Jackets.

Franklin Pierce (1-7, 1-6 NE-10) travels to Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday for a Northeast-10 Conference tilt starting at 5:00 p.m. American International (0-8, 0-8 NE-10) will play their final home game of the year on Saturday, when they host Southern New Hampshire University for a league contest beginning at 1:00 p.m.
