Bio

Ken Gernander enters his first year as head coach of the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey program following his appointment in May of 2024. Gernander brings with him nearly three decades of hockey experiences including 10 years as head coach of the Hartford Wolf Pack, two years as assistant coach of the Wolf Pack and three years as a regional scout for the New York Islanders.
 
Prior to coaching, Gernander put together an AHL Hall of Fame worthy career, which was honored with his induction in January of 2013. During his time in the AHL, Gernander played a total of 973 games and after retiring in 2005, he set the highest-scoring American born player in AHL history with 624 points, 293 goals and 331 assists. He also the all-time league leader in playoff games played with 123. During the 2000 season when he was captain of the Harford Wolf Pack, he led the team to its first ever Calder Cup Championship victory. Gernander also played an additional three seasons in the Winnipeg Jets Minor league system.
 
During his collegiate career, Gernander played for four at the Division I level at the University of Minnesota. He was a member of the WCHA Championship teams (1987-1988, 1988-1989), played in the National Championship in 1989, and made it to the Final Four in 1988.
