HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Ravens struck first at exactly the midway marker of the 1st period. Off a shot from junior defenseman Doug McGuire (Elk Grove Village, Ill.), junior forward Austin Pick (Troutdale, Ore.) slid the loose puck in front to sophomore forward Cooper Anderson (Marquette, Mich.). Anderson then whacked it home to give the Ravens the 1-0 lead.
  • The Ravens extended their lead 4:04 later in the period. Freshman forward Sam Mitchell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) waltzed into the attacking zone and dished a pass in front to freshman forward Matthew Frett (Cherry Hill, N.J.) who backhanded it into the cage to make it 2-0 Ravens.
  • The Penmen came out firing to begin the 2nd period. Ryan Pomposelli took advantage of a 2-on-1 and fired it past Jeremy Connor (Hazlet, N.J.) to make it a 2-1 deficit.
  • The remainder of the 2nd period didn't treat the Ravens kindly. Kurt Watson tied the score at 2-2 with a beautiful backhander, sneaking it past the short side of Jeremy Connor. The game remained tied 2-2 entering the 3rd period.
  • The momentum for the Penmen carried over into the 3rd period, taking the lead 35 seconds into the frame. Brendan Lynch picked up the rebound in the slot and roofed it upstairs for the go-ahead goal.
  • The Penmen iced the game with an empty netter with 1:02 left in regulation courtesy of Alex Muthersbaugh.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • The Penmen outshot the Ravens 29-25.
  • Jeremy Connor suffered the loss, making 25 saves in net for the Ravens.
  • The Ravens went 0-3 on the power play. The Penmen went 0-1.
