WINCHENDON, Mass. (11/9/24) - The Franklin Pierce men's ice hockey team hosted the Saint Anselm Hawks for the home series of NE10 conference play. The Hawks took the series by captalizing offensively on night two to win 5-2.

Location: Jason Ritchie Ice Arena, Winchendon, Mass.

Date: Saturday, November 9, 2024

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Hawks got the scoring started in the 11th minute of the first period as Brendan Manning stole the puck from a Ravens defender behind the net and found Conor Kelly in front of the goal who would give the Hawks the 1-0 lead.

  • The scoring would continue in the second period. Hunter Brackett sent the puck towards Luke Linart who shot from distance for the 2-0 lead.

  • A few minutes later, the Ravens would attempt to make a mark on the scoreboard. They brought the puck up the ice quickly and Thomas Perivolotis (Littleton, Mass.) would take a shot that would be saved by the Hawks goaltender. However, Todd Branish (Littleton, Colo.) would be there for the rebound and put the Ravens on the board.

  • The Hawks responded towards the end of the period to add comfort to their lead. On an attempt to clear by the Ravens, Chase Reynolds would capitalize on the error and shoot the puck past the Ravens goaltender to go ahead 3-1.

  • On a power play shortly into the third period, Luke Mix from the Hawks would receive a pass from Reynolds to find the open part of the net and score.

  • Once again, the Ravens would continue to attempt to apply pressure on the Hawks. Mario Paganini (Harrison, N.Y.) would take the puck from a Hawks defender all on his own to get it past the Hawks' goaltender to bring the score within 2.

  • The Hawks were sure to add one last tally to the board with less than a minute remaining. The Ravens had taken out their goalie in attempt to make a comeback on the Hawks, however, Mark Blaney was able to find the puck and send it towards the empty net to solidify the win.

INSIDE THE LINES:

  • The Hawks outshot the Ravens 30-24. However, in the 2nd period, the Ravens outshot the Hawks 13-9.

  • The Ravens were 0-2 on Power Plays while the Hawks were 1 for 3.

  • Junior goaltender Jeremy Connor (Hazlet, N.J.) made 25 saves with 29 shots faced.

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The men's hockey team continues their stretch of hosting as they bring in a non-conference opponent, Framingham State on Tuesday night. Puck drop is set for 7 PM.
