WESTFIELD, Mass. (11/2/24) – The Franklin Pierce Ravens men's ice hockey team couldn't come away with a win to close out the Western Massachusetts Invitational, as they fell short to the Arcadia Knights 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Score: Arcadia 3, Franklin Pierce 2

Records: Franklin Pierce (0-2, 0-0 NE-10), Arcadia (1-1, 0-0 MAC)

Location: Westfield, Mass.

Date: Saturday, Nov 2, 2024

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Knights opened the scoring 13:20 into the 1st period courtesy of Jude Cole, assisted by Drew Iannucci. They held onto the lead heading into the 1st intermission.

  • The Ravens tied the score 4:07 into the 2nd period. While shorthanded, junior forward Austin Pick (Troutdale, Oregon) ripped a shot that he buried in the back of the net, tying the score 1-1.

  • The Ravens carried that momentum into the 3rd period. Austin Pick added his 2nd goal of the game 7:41 into the period, assisted by junior Doug McGuire (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) and sophomore John Sterling (Centreville, Va.) to take a 2-1 lead.

  • Unfortunately, the rest of the 3rd period wouldn't treat the Ravens as kindly. Jude Cole added his 2nd goal of the game on the power play 10:16 into the frame to tie the score 2-2.

  • Just 2:40 later, Drew Iannucci netted the game winner as the Knights picked up the 3-2 win over the Ravens.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • The Knights outshot the Ravens 37-33.

  • Junior goalie Jeremy Connor (Hazlet, N.J.) suffered the loss in net for the Ravens despite an incredible 34-save performance.

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens have their home opener on Friday (11/8) as they square off against inter-state rival Saint Anselm at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass. Puck drop is at 4 p.m.
