Men's Ice Hockey: Drops Series Opener to Saint Anselm, 4-1.

MANCHESTER, N.H (2/16/2024) -- In game one of the final weekend series of the regular season, the Franklin Pierce men's hockey team suffered a 4-1 loss tonight against the St. Anselm Hawks at Sullivan Arena.

Score: Franklin Pierce 1, St. Anselm 4

Records: Franklin Pierce (12-14-0, 9-10-0 NE-10), St. Anselm (9-16-2, 7-10-2 NE-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• In the first period, St. Anselm outshot Franklin Pierce 17-8. The game remained scoreless heading into the first intermission. 

• In the second period, the Hawks scored two goals. A little over eight minutes in, sophomore defender Alex Hoitt scored the game's first goal. It was his first career goal with the Hawks. Three minutes later, junior forward Hunter Brackett scored his 14th goal of the season to give St. Anselm a 2-0 lead over Franklin Pierce heading into the second intermission. 

• Approaching the final five minutes of the game, the Ravens cut the Hawks lead in half on the power play. Senior forward Trevor Lawler (East Bridgewater, MA) scored his tenth goal of the season. Just 35 seconds later, St. Anselm regained their two-goal lead. Junior defender Luke Mix scored his fourth goal of the season. 

• With under two minutes to play, junior defender Mark Blaney scored the empty netter to seal the 4-1 victory for the Hawks. 

 

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

• Freshman goaltender Maxymilian Banoun (Alpine, New Jersey) made 51 saves on 54 shots. 

• Franklin Pierce was 1 for 7 on the power play. St. Anselm was 0 for 3 on the power play. 

• St. Anselm outshot Franklin Pierce 55-31. 

• St. Anselm won 41 faceoffs.
