Men's Ice Hockey: Ravens Fall Short in 3-2 OT Loss to SNHU Penmen

Hooksett, N.H. (2/3/2024)-- Men's Ice Hockey battled against Southern New Hampshire but ultimately fell short losing in overtime 3-2.

Records: Franklin Pierce (9-13-0, 7-9-0 NE10); SNHU (10-11-2, 8-7-1 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Ravens would score first at the 7:46 mark in the opening period. Dimitri Christou (Skaneatleles, N.Y.) shot it on net and Peyton Jones (Austin, Texas) was able to get the loose puck and smash it into the net giving the Ravens an early 1-0 lead.  

  • Scoring would be on pause until after 15 minutes gone by in the second period, while on the power play, Jim Minnig received the puck in the slot and wristed it into the net tying the game up at 1-1.  

  • The Penman again would strike on the power play four minutes later where on the dying seconds of the man advantage, Derek Flynn was able to sneak it into the net from the slot giving the Penman the lead going into the third period 2-1. 

  • The Ravens would respond just 20 seconds into the third period on a beautiful deflection shot from Nick Fish (Ashland, Mass.) to tie the game at 2-2 which would send the game into overtime.  

  • After a minute and a half of action, the Penman with the extra skater were able to net the overtime winner of the stick of Matt Amante.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • Jeremy Connor (Hazlet, N.J.) made 27 saves on 29 shots and was relieved by Riley Mastowski (Jamestown, PA) who made 11 saves on 12 shots and took the loss. Sean Guerin Burke made 27 saves on 29 shots and picked up the win for the Penman.  

  • Franklin Pierce was outshot by the Penman 29 to 41 

  • The Ravens were 0 for 6 on the power play while the Penman were 3 for 6. 

NEXT UP FOR THE RAVENS: 

  • The Ravens return to home ice next weekend to face off against Post University, puck drop on Friday the 9th is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
