RINDGE, N.H. (April 20, 2019) – Holding an 8-5 leading heading into the fourth and final quarter, the Franklin Pierce University men's lacrosse team was outscored 7-3 before eventually losing a 12-11 contest to Northeast-10 Conference opponent the College of Saint Rose Saturday during Senior Day. The win improves the Golden Knights mark to 5-8, 3-7 NE10 while the Ravens drop to 5-7, 3-7 NE10.

With under a minute to play, Pierce trailed 12-10. Coach Senatore took a timeout when the Ravens were in the attacking zone. The Ravens set up shop and freshman Stephen Ell (Peabody, Mass.) dished the rock to sophomore Mike Alibrandi (Holliston, Mass.) who cashed in a shot with 25 ticks left to pull the Ravens within one, 12-11.

FPU faceoff specialist Lawrence Bastianelli (Rocky Point, N.Y.) won the ensuing faceoff, one of his nine wins in the contest and immediately raced down the field and passed the ball to senior midfielder Jake Castorf (Holbrook, N.Y.). Castorf ran around the back of the cage and drew a 30-second pushing penalty with 13 seconds remaining. The Ravens threw the ball around having the advantage looking for their chance to tie when sophomore midfielder Josh Dorr (Brunswick, Maine) ripped a wide open shot on the right wing that was turned away by Golden Knight starting keeper Matthew Gill clinching the game.

The Ravens honored their 10 seniors in a pregame ceremony that recognized them for their contributions to the team, the athletic department and the Franklin Pierce University community.

In his final career home game, Castorf scored a team-best three goals giving him 87 in his career which passed Kevin Dargin's previous mark of 85 for third on the all-time scoring list. Castorf needs two more markers for sole possession of second place in program annals. On the defensive end, Castorf caused one turnover and gobbled up two groundballs.

Dorr and Ell matched Castorf's three points with three of their own each. Dorr tallied two goals and one assist while Ell had one marker and two helpers. Making his second career start in net, senior Brian Schiavi (Dracut, Mass.) made a personal-best 16 saves in the tough-luck loss.

Saint Rose was led by a five-goal performance from senior attack Carter Badour. Sophomore midfielder John Loughlin tacked on a four-point effort with two goals and two assists. Gill stifled the Ravens for 10 saves.

The Golden Knights were 4-of-6 on their man advantage chances while the Ravens were only 1-of-5, however, the Ravens had the edge in shots 45-to-43.

FPU opened the game with four consecutive goals, three unassisted including senior midfielder's Callan Lemay's (Wilton, N.Y.) marker that hit the pipe and bounced in the cage putting the Ravens ahead 4-0. Saint Rose cracked the scoring column with 1:35 to play in the period cutting their deficit to 4-1. In the second, Pierce advanced their lead to 7-1 with their only man-up goal of the game, a quick Dorr pass to Ell with 4:31 left before the break. Two Badour "up" scores made it a 7-3 game at the intermission.

The guests brought the margin down to two, 7-5 as Badour cranked a one-timer on the right wing capping off a stretch of four straight goals by the upperclassman. Castorf halted the scoring spurt with a spinning attempt off a defender and into the back of the net.

Pierce's lead built back up to three, 10-7 via a senior attack Luke Tracy (Windham, N.H.) goal and Ell skip pass at the 10:50 mark. With 6:34 to go, Saint Rose poured in five straight goals to take the lead until the Ravens almost completed the comeback.
