Women’s Cross Country Clocks Program-Best Eighth-Place Finish at NCAA East Regional

Ravens women's cross country

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (November 19, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's cross country team put together the best finish in program history on Saturday, as the Ravens took eighth place, out of 19 teams, at the NCAA Championship East Regional, hosted by Adelphi. First across the line for the Ravens was graduate student Saylee Missell (Stafford Springs, Conn.), who claimed 48th out of 143 runners for her 24:04 time in the 6k race.

Accompanying Missell was junior Meghan Sheline (Southington, Conn.), who claimed 50th for her 24:05 time. Senior Victoria Van Houten (Wantage, N.J.) took 56th for her 24:25 time. In 70th was graduate student Alena Masterson (Pelham, N.H.), who crossed the line in 24:58. Behind her was junior Jasmin Baillargeon (South Wheelock, Vt.), who took 75th for her 25:03 time to finish out the Franklin Pierce point scorers.

It all added up to 270 points and an eighth-place finish for the Ravens, which marked a program high-water mark. The team's previous best at the regional meet had been a ninth-place finish in 2019.

At the top of the field, Southern New Hampshire (52 points) claimed the East Region title by a 17-point margin over second-place Roberts Wesleyan (69 points). Daemen (86 points) took third to round out the trio of schools which earned berths through to December's national championship race.

Also racing for Franklin Pierce, but outside of the scoring quintet, were senior Meagan Foley (Beverly Mass.), who claimed 88th for her 25:03 time, and graduate student Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.), who took 89th for her 25:45 time.

SNHU senior Ashley Corcoran claimed the individual East Region crown, with a time of 21:55. She was followed by American International sophomore Fransiscah Cherotich in second (22:09), and Daemen senior Kassandra Nolet in third (22:24).
