Women’s Tennis NCAA East Regional Preview: First Round vs. Queens (N.Y.)

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (5/4/22) – Tuesday evening revealed the official selections to the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship, setting the stage for Franklin Pierce women's tennis and their automatic qualifying trip to the East Regional following their NE10 title from the fall season.

The Ravens enter the tournament as the #6 seed for the east region, and will face #3 seeded Queens (N.Y.) in the opening round on Thursday, May 5th at Noon. Queens is also serving as the host school for the east region's second bracket, with the emerging victor set to take on #2 seeded University of the District of Columbia.  For Franklin Pierce women's tennis, it is their second straight trip to the NCAA tournament.

In his first season with the program, head coach Alejandro Andres leads the Ravens into the tournament with an 13-5 overall record following this past season. The Ravens rallied behind some strong singles performances from graduates Estela Carra (Logrono, Spain), Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and Anais Geslin (Livry-Gargin, France). Mor led the Ravens in singles victories through both the fall and spring, finishing with a 15-4 record (8-0 NE10) in her final season at Franklin Pierce.  Carra finished the season with a 14-3 overall record, but was lights out in conference play, going undefeated against NE10 opponents with a 10-0 record. Geslin concluded the season 10-2 (5-1 NE10), and was a recipient of NE10 "Player of the Week" accolades on April 5th.

Additionally, the team dominated consistently in doubles competition, going 41-16 in all completed matches this season. The top pairing of Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) and Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) led the way for women's tennis with an 8-4 overall record, which was good for the team lead in overall doubles wins. Anais Geslin also provided the Ravens with some winning combinations, joining forces with Himani Mor while going 7-3 overall, and Estela Carra with a 5-1 record this season.

The Knights from Queens College enter the tournament with an 11-7 overall record, making their 21st tournament appearance in program history.  Through this past spring season, the Knights went undefeated when facing off against opposing Division II squads, going 6-0 to slot in as the #3 seed in the NCAA East Region.

The winning team from this weekend will move on to the finals, which will take place on May 17th through May 21st in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
