Women's Lacrosse: DeLonais Tallies 5 Points but Ravens Fall to no.24 Assumption Greyhounds

WORCESTER, MASS. (4/6/2024) – Senior attacker Olivia DeLonais (North Andover, MA) boasted a five-point day for the Ravens on Saturday, but it wasn't enough to slow down the no. 24 ranked Assumption Greyhounds who defended home turf with a 18-9 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Ravens scored the first goal of the game just over a minute in after Olivia DeLonais buried a shot off a pass from Hayley Hermsdorf (Center Moriches, NY). From there it was all Greyhounds as the team hit the jets with five unanswered goals. Junior attacker Emily Ulmer (Bedford, NH) ended the Greyhound run with an unassisted goal of her own but Assumption responded with another goals to close out the first quarter with the 6-2 lead.
  • The Greyhounds opened up the second quarter with a three-goal run from three different scores to extend their lead to 9-2. DeLonais netted her second goal of the game to temporarily slow the Hounds, but Assumption kept the pressure with another pair of goals. With seven seconds until halftime, senior midfielder Kayli Hoefs (Amsterdam, NY) grabbed her first unassisted goal of the game to make it 11-4.
  • After a six goal first quarter and five goal second quarter, the Hounds slowed down offensively in the second half. Assumption grabbed two goals to start the third and from there the teams went eye for eye for a combined four goals including one from sophomore midfielder Erin McIlroy (Newfields, NH) and Sophomore attacker Olivia Robb (East Longmeadow, MA). Heading into the fourth quarter, Assumption held a 15-6 lead.
  • The Ravens tallied a game high three goals in the fourth quarter, made up of two goals from DeLonais and one from freshman attacker Kelci Waters' (Milford, NH). Matching the Ravens, the Greyhounds capitalized on the man-up opportunity and a free position shot to tally two more goals and secure the 18-9 victory.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Notes:
    • Olivia DeLonais led the Ravens with four goals and an assist and marked the only Franklin Pierce player to score more than once. Offensively, the Greyhounds were all gas all game with five players score three or more goals.
    • Statistically, the Ravens and the Greyhounds were significantly closer in many areas than what the final score reflected. Groundballs, turnovers and draw controls nearly mirrored each other but the largest difference between the two teams registered in total shots taken.
