Women’s Lacrosse: Ravens Pick Up Second Straight Win, Cruising Past D’Youville 18-10

RINDGE, NH (3/29/2024) – The Franklin Pierce Women's Lacrosse team picked up their 2nd consecutive win over the D'Youville Saints on Friday afternoon, putting together a complete team effort in route to an 18-10 non-conference victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • In the first quarter, Kayli Hoefs (Amsterdam, NY) began the scoring for the Ravens by slashing to the middle and ripping a shot past the Saints netminder for the 1-0 lead. They extended their lead on the woman up as Maura Cogavin (Franklin, MA) dashed to the middle and tucked a shot on the right side to make it 2-0 Ravens. The Ravens offense continued to thrive as Hayley Hermsdorf (Center Moriches, NY) dished a pass to Olivia DeLonais (North Andover, MA) who added another goal to extend their lead to 3-0. Emily Ulmer (Bedford, NH) joined the party as she streaked toward the middle and fired a shot into the right side of the goal, making it 4-0. Kayli Hoefs added her 2nd goal of the game as she made a beautiful move, faking a shot and dancing around 3 defenders to beat the goalkeeper on a 1-on-1, giving them the 5-0 lead. Hayley Hermsdorf added her 2nd assist of the quarter as she fed a wide-open Erin McIlroy (Newfields, NH), who cashed in to give the Ravens a commanding 6-0 lead. Erin McIlroy wouldn't stop there as she received a pass from Emily Ulmer then whipped a shot from the right side that found the back of the net, which made it 7-0 Ravens. Sydney Gordon scored the lone goal for the Saints at the end of the first quarter, as the Ravens took the 7-1 lead after the first fifteen minutes.  
  • The second quarter began just like the first, as the Ravens offense picked up right where they left off. Olivia Robb (East Longmeadow, MA) picked up a loose ball and rocketed it in the top corner, padding their lead to 8-1. Sydney Gordon added her 2nd of the game to cut the deficit to 8-2 for the Saints. Kayli Hoefs and Olivia Robb each added another goal to give the Ravens the 10-2 lead. Madison Handley found the back of the net twice for the Saints, now trailing 10-4. The Ravens responded at the end of the 2nd quarter, as Olivia DeLonais added her 2nd of the game off a free position shot, making it an 11-4 Ravens lead at the halftime break.  
  • In the third quarter, Sydney Gordon added another goal giving her a hat trick, and cutting the Ravens lead to 11-5. The Ravens responded with a pair of goals. Hayley Hermsdorf dished a pass to Maura Cogavin along the right post, who skipped a shot past the goalkeeper for the 12-5 lead. Then, on the woman up, Olivia Robb capped off her day with a hat trick, scoring off a pass from Kayli Hoefs. Sam Newlin and Madison Handley each scored for the Saints, cutting the deficit to 13-7. Both teams would trade punches at the end of the 3rd quarter, as Hayley Hermsdorf scored for the Ravens and Madison Buck scored for the Saints, making it a 14-8 Ravens lead entering the fourth quarter.  
  • The Ravens sealed the victory in the 4th quarter, outscoring the Saints 4-2 to clinch the 18-10 win. Hayley Hermsdorf added 2 more to her name for a hat trick and Emily Ulmer and Erin McIlroy each scored for the Ravens.
