Women’s Ice Hockey’s Ruiz, Remington Nab NEWHA Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. (November 10, 2021) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team picked up a pair of New England Women's Hockey Alliance weekly awards on Tuesday. Sophomore Jenna Ruiz (Webster, Wis.) was tabbed as Player of the Week, while sophomore Brooke Remington (Scandia, Minn.) picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Ruiz put together a four-point week, on three goals and an assist, as the Ravens went 1-0-1 over the weekend. She scored a second-period goal in a 5-0 win over Castleton on Friday night, before having a three-point day against New Hampshire on Saturday. Ruiz had a first-period assist and then put home a pair of third-period goals, including the game-tying marker, in a 3-3 (OT) tie with the Wildcats. She finished the weekend +3 and took seven shots.

For her part, Remington also had a four-point week, with two goals and two assists. She had a goal and an assist in each of the weekend's two games, including a helper on Ruiz's game-tying goal in the third against UNH. Remington was also +3 on the week, with three shots.

On the season, the duo stands as the team's top two scorers through nine games. Ruiz leads the way at 4-4-8, while Remington has contributed 4-3-7.

The Ravens (4-4-1) are back in league play this weekend, as they host Saint Michael's for a pair at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 7 p.m. on Saturday.
