Prukmathakul, Women’s Golf Dominant on First Day of Saint Rose Invitational

Kesinee Prukmathakul

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (October 7, 2022) -- Things were not exactly competitive at the top of either leaderboard on Friday, at the first day of the Saint Rose Invitational, but that was just fine for the Franklin Pierce University women's golf team. Sophomore Kesinee Prukmathakul (Bangkok, Thailand) turned in a one-over 73 and leads by six shots, while the Ravens put all five of their golfers in the top 10 of the 47-player field to open up a whopping 25-stroke lead at the top of the eight-team event. The Saint Rose Invitational is being held at the par-72, 5804-yard Pinehaven Country Club.

Prukmathakul will be looking for her seventh career victory on Saturday, and has some room to work with at the top of the leaderboard. The opening-round 73 was good for a six-shot lead over three players tied-second at 79 (+7). The chase group includes another Raven, senior Alia Godek (Feeding Hills, Mass.), along with Adelphi junior Ilaria Ponziani and Saint Rose senior Erika Fuentes.

Also competing on Friday for the Ravens, sophomore Phisonlaya Ruayruen (Chiangmai, Thailand) was another four shots back from there at 83 (+11). Senior Micaela Leandro (Harlingen, Texas) and freshman Lorelai Flanagan (Arlington, Mass.) were half of a four-way tie for 10th at 86 (+14).

It all added up to a first-round 321 (+33) for the Ravens, which was well better than any other team could muster on Friday. Adelphi is second, but 25 shots off the pace at 346 (+58). Host Saint Rose is third at 347 (+59), ahead of Assumption in fourth at 350 (+62). Just nine shots separate Adelphi in second from fifth-place Le Moyne, at 355 (+67).

The Saint Rose Invitational will wrap up with the second round on Saturday at Pinehaven Country Club.
