Softball's Hinckley, Cangiano & Vorseth Receive All-Region Accolades

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (5/11/22) – As the clock counts down to the start of the NCAA Division II Softball Championship, the awards keep on piling up as a trio of Franklin Pierce softball members were honored as National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) All-Region selections, with two additionally receiving Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) accolades, as was announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Out of 26 total players, graduate Gina Hinckley (Lancaster, Mass.), sophomore Ashley Cangiano (North Attleboro, Mass.) and freshman Lita Vorseth (Mesa, Ariz.) were all named to the NFCA All-Region Second Team. Additionally, Cangiano was named to the D2CCA All-Region First Team, with Vorseth joining her as an All-Region Second Team honoree.

This spring, Hinckley set the bar even higher after becoming the programs all-time leader in Home Runs, continuing beyond the tying mark for a total of 27 homers in her collegiate career. This season, Hinckley has played in 38 games while delivering 43 hits with 11 home runs, as well as a conference leading 42 RBI. It is the second time that Hinckley has received NFCA All-Region Second Team honors, following her recent NE10 Second Team All-Conference selection.

In just her second season, Cangiano was a consistent offensive presence for the Ravens, currently holding the NE10's second-best batting average (.424), with four home runs and 40 RBI totaled through 39 games played. This season, the two-time NE10 "Player of the Week" currently leads the Ravens in total hits with 50, and recently broke the program record for most RBI in a single game (7) on April 30th. Cangiano also becomes a second time recipient of the NFCA All-Region Second Team honors, as well as the D2CCA accolades.

As a freshman, Vorseth "came out swinging" to begin her collegiate career, playing in 38 total games while registering 42 hits with two home runs, 20 RBI and a .365 batting average. Additionally, she made some history in her inaugural season by becoming the program's single-season leader in total doubles, currently holding out at 16 through the spring campaign. At the conclusion of the regular season, Vorseth received both NE10 First Team All-Conference and All-Rookie Team honors.
