Men's Cross Country's Summa and Alonso Recieve NE10 Honors
MANSFIELD, MASS. (09/12/2023) – After an opening weekend at Bryant University's Nassaney Invitation where the Franklin Pierce University Men's Cross-Country team finished fourth overall, two FPU runners earned honors in the Northeast-10's weekly awards.
Junior Wondu Summa (Burlington, V.T.) who was named NCAA Division II East Region Male Athlete of the Year in 2022, was named Northeast-10 Athlete of the week for his performance during opening weekend. He finished runner up at the Nassaney Invitational by just 1.4 seconds, with a 15:08 5K, a pace of 4:53 per mile.
Freshman Mendo Alonso (Málaga, Spain) also received honors after he was named Rookie of the Week. He debuted as the Raven's number 3 runner, finishing the 5K with a time of 16:04. The 5:11 mile pace put Alonso 31st overall but he was the first non-division I freshman to cross the finish line.
