Summa Takes First, Men’s Cross Country Wins at Smith Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (September 11, 2021) -- Saturday went in the books as a success for the Franklin Pierce University men's cross country team. In a dominant performance, the Ravens had nine of the top 10 finishers to roll to a meet victory at the Smith College Invitational. Franklin Pierce bettered eight other teams, while sophomore Wondu Summa (Burlington, Vt.) finished in front of 71 other runners, as the individual winner.

Franklin Pierce amassed just 19 points on the day to post a blowout win over second-place Nichols (63 points). It was another 48 points from there back to third-place Regis (Mass.), with 111. Meanwhile, it was a three-second win for Summa, who ran the 5k in 16:14 to edge out UMass Boston senior James Cannon (16:17).

Sophomore Ryan Outerbridge (Paget, Bermuda) was the next Raven to cross, as he took third place for his 16:28 time. Senior William Aylward (Peabody, Mass.) was fourth for his 16:30 time and was followed by sophomore Tad Darrah (Thetford, Vt.), who claimed fifth for his 16:47.3 time. Sophomore Evan McNeice (Wethersfield, Conn.) was just one-tenth of a second farther back, and rounded out the scoring five in sixth, with a 16:47.4 run.

Graduate student Sebastien Vicary (Ulceby, United Kingdom) took seventh for a 16:50 time. Senior Riley Fenoff (Danville, Vt.) claimed eighth for his 16:58 time. Senior Cody Tallent (Bellows Falls, Vt.) in ninth (17:03) and sophomore Ryan Walker (Seabrook, N.H.) in 10th (17:05) rounded out the top-10 barrage for the Ravens.

Freshman Logan Mihelich (Northwood, N.H.) was 12th for his 17:20 time. In 17th was freshman Harrison Pelosi (Gloucester, Mass.), who finished in 17:57. Crossing in 18:37 was sophomore Ntakirutimana Janvier (Burlington, Vt.), who claimed 20th. The 22nd position went to freshman Michael Eggers-Emerson (Contoocook, N.H.), who raced in 18:38, while sophomore Mitchell Stokes (Worcester, Mass.) took 24th for his 18:44 time. Finishing out the day for the Ravens was freshman Cole Cooper (North Hampton, N.H.), who claimed 34th for his 20:10 finish.

The Ravens are back in action at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18.
