DARTMOUTH, Mass. (September 15, 2012) – Freshman runner Colton Ham (Webster, N.H.) turned in an 18th place individual finish on Saturday to help pace the Franklin Pierce University men’s cross country team to a 14th place effort out of 38 teams at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational.

Ham’s high finish came in a field of 293 runners, in what was also just his second career collegiate race. He notched a time of 25:35.55 in the 8k race and was the second fastest Northeast-10 runner to place in the competition. Ham was bested only by Assumption’s Tony Fierimonte, who placed 16th in time of 25:30.28.

Classmate Joe Trujillo (Derry, N.H.) was the next Raven to cross the finish line as he recorded a 60th-place effort in a time of 26:33.09. Rookie Chaz Munroe (Concord, N.H.) didn’t finish far behind as he placed 80th with a mark of 26.54.21.

The final two Ravens to add to the team score were also a pair of freshmen, including Ryan Cross (Suffern, N.Y.), who took 97th in a time of 27:04.61, while Isaac Fithian (Kingston, N.H.) followed in 99th place with a mark of 27:07.54.

The Ravens finished the competition with a score of 342 points and were the highest NE-10 finisher in the field, topping Bentley (15th), Assumption (16th), Saint Anselm (29th) and Southern New Hampshire (37th). Franklin Pierce even finished ahead of one NCAA Division I program, Holy Cross, as it finished in 24th place.

Franklin Pierce returns to action next Saturday when the Ravens compete in the Ted Owens Invitational in New Britain, Conn. The race will begin at 11 a.m. and will be a five-mile event.
