Women Finish Ninth, Men Tenth at Fitchburg State - Jim Sheehan Memorial Track Meet

FITCHBURG, Mass. (4/8/23) – The spring season rolled on for the Franklin Pierce women's and men's track & field program, as they made the short trip down to Fitchburg State University for the annual Jim Sheehan Memorial Track Meet on Saturday.

Out of a 20-team field, the women's squad placed 9th overall with 33 points, while the men's half took 10th out of 23 opposing teams with 28 points scored.   

Freshman Elizabeth Jones (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) highlighted the Pierce women's side after participating in three total events throughout the day, compiling two top-five finishes in Pole Vault (3.05m) and 100-Meter Hurdles (18.24). Meanwhile, on the men's side, senior Connor Everidge (Baldwinville, Mass.) set a new program record in the Hammer Throw after hitting a mark of 50.31 meters, passing a previous-best from the 2017 season by Mark Josselyn. Everidge also took 1st place in the event.

PIERCE PLUS PERFORMERS – WOMEN'S

  • Freshman Elizabeth Jones claimed 3rd in the Women's 100-Meter Hurdles (18.24), 2nd in the Women's Pole Vault (3.05m), 18th in the Women's Discus (24.45m)
  • Freshman Mackenzie Luth (Groton, Mass.) placed 2nd in the Women's High Jump (1.50m)
  • Sophomore Teresa Deasy (Smithtown, N.Y.) finished 4th in the Women's Pole Vault (2.75m)
  • Junior Tyra Felton (Sterling, Mass.) placed 3rd in the Women's Hammer Throw (42.48)
  • Freshman Emily Nhun (Biddeford, Maine) finished 11th in the Women's Hammer Throw (29.27m)


PIERCE PLUS PERFORMERS – MEN'S

  • Freshman Chance Conklin (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished 20th in the Men's 400-Meter Dash (58.30)
  • Sophomore Ailoune Diaw (Cumberland, R.I.) took 15th in the Men's High Jump (1.65m)
  • Junior Connor Nordman (Bethel, Conn.) placed 3rd-overall in the Men's Pole Vault (4.00m)
  • Freshman Quentin McDaniels (Sanborten, N.H.) placed 9th in the Men's Pole Vault (3.25m)
  • Senior Connor Everidge took the win in the Men's Hammer Throw (50.31m)
  • Junior Sal Lando (Sterling, Mass.) snagged 3rd in the Men's Hammer Throw (42.9m)
  • Freshman Jay Candelario (New Haven, Conn.) finished 17th in the Men's Discus (31.88m)
  • Junior Brogan Bonsaint (Somersworth, N.H.) placed 3rd in the Men's Javelin (53.96m)

Track and field continues their competition schedule at both the Southern New Hampshire Penmen Relays, as well as the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic from April 15th through the 16th. The squads will split for the two meets, with relay teams competing at SNHU for the Friday (4/15) only.
