Men's Tennis Drops 5-2 Decision Versus Bentley University

Rindge, N.H. (4/5/22) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team suffered a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Bentley University this afternoon, in their fourth NE10 conference matchup of the spring season.

The Ravens fall to 4-7 on the season, while the Falcons improve to 10-7.

The Ravens collected wins at two singles matches, headlined by graduate student Felipe Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and sophomore Ivan Bernal (Madrid, Spain). At first singles, Carvalho dominated through two sets of play, defeating opponent Daniel Weitz 6-2 and 6-1 to claim the victory. Next up, at second singles, Bernal opened with a strong performance in the first set, defeating Falcons' Connor Aulson 6-2 in the first set. Bernal would have to fight in the second frame, but emerged triumphant with a 6-4 victory to also complete his match in two sets. The two singles victories would be all for the Ravens, securing two points.

Both third and fifth singles were closely contested, with each being played to tiebreak sets. A notable performance from senior Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, VT), who kept right with Bentley opponent Alexander Novins in fifth singles. After falling in the first set 6-4, Gordon returned the favor in the second set winning by the same score. In the end with the tiebreak set, Novins got the final word in and finished it off 10-7 to collect the match win.

Men's Tennis will look for some redemption this coming Saturday at 1PM, where they will travel to meet in-state rival Southern New Hampshire University.
