MEDFIELD, Mass. (February 20, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team suffered an 8-1 defeat against Babson, in non-conference, neutral-site play on Sunday afternoon. The match was contested at Kingsbury Club.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-2 on the season, while Babson improves to 2-1.

Franklin Pierce's only point of the day came at second doubles, where the team of senior Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) and graduate student Felipe Carvalho (Sao Paulo, Brazil) posted an 8-5 win over freshmen Brady Anderson and Wesley Zhang.

Babson took the other two doubles matches, though first doubles was a highly-competitive contest which required a tiebreak. Babson junior Maxwell Conlin and freshman Ole Lepsoe staved off junior Alejandro Ortiz (Madrid, Spain) and senior Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago), 8-7 (7).

Later, Babson dropped just one set while taking all six singles matches. The most competitive of the bunch was a three-set affair at third singles. Gordon held his own, including a win in a second-set tiebreak, but was ultimately bettered by senior Kian Yazdi, 6-4, 6-7 (6), 10-6.

The Ravens are scheduled to be back in action at Queens (N.Y.) on Friday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m.
