Russell Russell scored the only goal for the Ravens on Friday night at Johnson & Wales.

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (November 5, 2010) – Junior forward Jeremiah Ketts scored three times to post a hat trick and added two assists to finish with five points on Friday night to lead Johnson & Wales to an 8-1 victory over the Franklin Pierce University ice hockey team in non-conference play at Rhode Island Sports Center. Sophomore defenseman Wes Russell (Marlborough, Mass.) scored the lone goal in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-3-0 (0-0-0 Northeast-10), while Johnson & Wales improves to 1-1-0 (0-0-0 ECAC Northeast).

Johnson & Wales opened the scoring with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart in the first period. First, Ketts scored on the power play, before freshman forward Colin Flynn added the second goal.

The floodgates would open in the second period, when the Wildcats put home five goals, including shorthanded and even-strength tallies just 2:53 apart for Ketts to complete the hat trick. Sophomore forward Danny Kaufmann scored a pair of power-play goals 44 seconds apart and added an assist earlier in the period to go with an assist from the first stanza to complete his four-point night. Ketts added the first of his two assists on the first Kaufmann goal. Junior forward Joe Simeone scored the other goal in the middle frame.

Russell broke up the shutout coming out of the gates in the third period, as he scored an unassisted marker, his first of the season, on a 5-on-3 power play just 38 seconds into the final stanza. Sophomore defenseman Trevor Jewell capped the scoring at the 16:25 mark for Johnson & Wales to create the 8-1 final.

Junior goaltender Ben Siok (Holden, Mass.) made 17 saves and took the loss (0-3-0) in net for Franklin Pierce before being relieved after the seventh Johnson & Wales goal. Freshman Dale Adams (Gardner, Mass.) made six saves the rest of the way for the Ravens. Sophomore Jake Menzel stopped 15 shots to pick up the win (1-0-0) between the pipes for Johnson & Wales.

Johnson & Wales posted a 31-16 advantage in shots on goal in the game and went 4-for-9 on the power play. Franklin Pierce finished 1-for-9 with the man-advantage.

The Ravens return to the ice on Wednesday, Nov. 10, when they travel to Nichols for a non-conference game. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. at June Rockwell Levy Rink in Harrisville, R.I.
