Men's Basketball Makes Statement with Sixth Straight Win, Defeating New Haven 77-72

RINDGE, N.H. (1/28/2023) - The Franklin Pierce Men's Basketball team claimed a huge Northeast-10 conference statement victory, 77-72 over the University of New Haven University on Saturday afternoon at the Fieldhouse.

Having now won their last six matchups, the Ravens improve to 13-7 (8-5 NE10), and New Haven drops to 13-6 (10-4 NE10).

From the opening tip, both teams were aggressive on the floor. Through the opening five minutes of the first half, the Ravens jumped to a 9-4 advantage on the Chargers, converting on their first three shots from behind the arc thanks to sophomore scorers Jarnel Snow-Guzman (Lynn, Mass.) and Mohamed Traore (Hyde Park, Mass.), and junior Sean Bresnan (Yonkers, N.Y.). However, the Chargers were not about to let the Ravens to pull away that easily, and continued to pound the Ravens in the paint, trimming the Raven lead down to just 17-15 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of the half. Both teams kept to trade baskets nearing halftime, as Snow-Guzman was already in double figures with Pierce holding a four-point lead, 33-29.

The game continued to be close in the second half as Snow-Guzman and Traore continued to lead the offensive attack. With both team's searching for a scoring run, the action saw numerous chances at both ends of the court. Sophomore JB Mukeba (Lynn, Massachusetts) provided a spark for the Ravens off the bench with an energizing dunk - make it a 49-44 Ravens lead. From there, the Ravens went on a 13-6 run to claim their largest lead of the game, eventually climbing to a 14-point advantage with eight minutes left to go in the action. Following the run, Pierce was then able to maintain control the tempo and keep the Chargers at bay, en route to their 77-72 Saturday afternoon victory.

Jarnel Snow-Guzman and Mohamad Traore combined for 44 of the Ravens 77 total points on the afternoon, evenly splitting the total in half with 22 point performances. In addition to their effort, Sean Bresnan contributed 10 points of his own, shooting 6-of-13 from the field, while the Ravens finished the day shooting 29-of-59 (49.2%) from the field and (46.2%) from behind the arc. Pierce also took advantage of quick movement down the floor, collecting 21 total fastbreak points.

The Ravens hit the road on Wednesday, February 1st where they will face Saint Michael's College for a late evening, in-conference showdown with tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
