Second Half Run Lifts Men's Basketball to 88-66 Victory over Caldwell University

CALDWELL, N.J. (12/10/22) -  Fueled by a strong second half and four separate 14-plus point scorers, the Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team claimed an 88-66 victory over Caldwell University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference competition at the George R. Newman Center.

Men's Basketball improves to 6-3 (3-2 NE10) following the road triumph, while host Caldwell dropped to 6-4 with the loss. The Ravens are 3-1 against non-conference opponents this season and have now won two straight.

The first half saw Pierce shoot 15-of-33 (45.5%) from the floor, which including 15 points from sophomore Sean Trumper (Ashford, United Kingdom). Through the half,  the Ravens trailed the Cougars by as much as 21-12, but powered their way back into the competition with a 16-9 scoring run, counting a pair of dunks from junior forward Antonio Chandler (Piscataway, N.J.). Over the final two minutes, the Ravens were able to string together six unanswered points on three consecutive possessions, giving them a 39-36 advantage heading into the intermission.

Coming out of the break, the Ravens took a 57-45 lead after doubling-up on the Cougars 18-9 through the first seven minutes of the second half. With 10:25 to play, Antonio Chandler pushed the Raven lead to 63-50 on a three-point jumper, and shortly thereafter added his third dunk of the afternoon to make it a 65-52 contest. However, the Ravens really opened things up in the final three minutes, staging a 12-2 scoring run with six of their points belonging to junior Sean Bresnan (Yonkers, N.Y.), and two belonging to freshman Francesco Boniciolli (Trieste, Italy), the first of his collegiate career.  

Sean Bresnan led the Ravens with a game-high 20 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field with five rebounds off the board. Sean Trumper scored 17 points in the game, while Antonio Chandler and Mohamad Traore (Hyde Park, Mass.) each collected 14 points. Chandler's 14 points were good for a new career-high, and contributed to a 23-point afternoon off the bench for the Ravens.

Men's basketball hosts two non-conference matchups entering the winter break, with their next visit to The Fieldhouse featuring Bloomfield University for a 1:30 p.m. matinee tipoff.
