Danielle Dolan, Beth Haight, Kim Jaksina Named 2011 Field Hockey Captains

RINDGE, N.H. (May 9, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team has announced that forward Danielle Dolan (West Brookfield, Mass.), back Beth Haight (Hamlin, N.Y.) and midfielder Kim Jaksina (Townsend, Mass.) will serve as senior tri-captains for the 2011 season. The trio was pivotal to the team’s 2010 season, when it returned to the postseason for the second time in three years.

(March 10, 2011) – Freshman backs Renee DesPres (Skowhegan, Maine) and Jess Rogers (Uxbridge, Mass.); junior forwards Danielle Dolan (West Brookfield, Mass.), Lauren L’Heureux (Sanford, Maine) and Tia Levins (Manchester, Maine); freshmen midfielders Julie Hemphill (Clarkston, Mich.) and Liz Noddin (Skowhegan, Maine); sophomore back Alyssa Juszczyk (Warren, Mass.); and junior goalkeeper Britt Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team have all been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II National Academic Squad, as announced Thursday by the NFHCA. To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher through the fall semester.
Six Student-Athletes Named to Northeast-10 Fall All-Academic Teams

RINDGE, N.H. (February 15, 2011) -- Six Franklin Pierce University student-athletes on Tuesday were named to their respective sport's 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Fall All-Academic Team. The six honorees included field hockey's Tia Levins (Manchester, Maine) and Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.), women's soccer's Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass.), volleyball's Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich.) and men's soccers Tom Reilly (Wallasey, England) and Victor Goncalves (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). All six student-athletes were also recently named to the Northeast-10 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for the fall semester.

There is an old saying in sports that there is no ‘I’ in “team.” Taken at face value, it is a cautionary tale that no individual can win a game on their own, that a team is the sum of its parts, that working together will yield the best result. If you take a deeper look at it though, you can extrapolate the idea even further. If you take a deeper look at it, you realize that no student-athlete got to where they are all by themselves. You realize that there is something beyond the field that’s pushing them, driving them, making them tick.

(November 16, 2010) – Junior forward Lauren L’Heureux (Sanford, Maine) scored a first-half goal on Tuesday afternoon, but the sixth-seeded Franklin Pierce University field hockey team was defeated, 2-1, at third-seeded and No. 10 nationally ranked American International in the quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship at Ronald J. Abdow Field. Junior forward Amanda McLean scored both goals in the win for AIC.

In addition, senior midfielder Jordan Baillargeon (Westfield, Mass.) and junior forward Tia Levins (Manchester, Maine) have both been named to the All-Northeast-10 Conference Second Team, while freshman back Renee DesPres (Skowhegan, Maine) was selected to the conference’s All-Rookie Team.

(November 10, 2010) – Junior forward Tia Levins (Manchester, Maine) scored the game-winning goal on Wednesday night, her 12th goal of the season to set a new program record, as the Franklin Pierce University field hockey team closed out the regular season with a 4-2 win over Southern Connecticut State in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Junior goalkeeper Brittany Nyzio (Attleboro, Mass.) earned her 16th career win in front of the cage for the Ravens, to set a program record in that department as well.
