Franklin Pierce Downed by Bryant, 2-1

Saturday against Bryant.

RINDGE, N.H. (September 25, 2004) - The
Franklin Pierce field hockey team fell to Bryant University, 2-1
today in Northeast-10 Conference action. With the loss, the Ravens
fall to 3-4, both overall and in the conference. The Bulldogs
improve their record to 4-6 overall and 3-5 in league play with the
win.
Bryant got on the board early as sophomore Michaela Dwyer (Buskirk,
N.Y./Hoosick Falls Central) notched her second goal of the season
with 29:55 remaining in the first half. Junior Maureen Burns
(Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) and sophomore Kristen Tighe (North
Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) were credited with assists on the goal.
The Ravens battled back to tie the score at one at the 24:33 mark
in the first half, as sophomore Angela Barone (Norwood, Pa./Interboro)
fired a shot past Bryant goalkeeper Kriten Patat (Portsmouth, N.H.)
for her second goal of the year.
The Bulldogs regained the lead with 33:56 remaining in the second
half on an unassisted goal by freshman Courtney O’Brien
(Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury). The goal would prove to be the game
winner, O’Brien’s second of the year and fifth goal
overall. Freshman goalkeeper Kasey Kortz (Louisville, Ky./St.
Francis) stopped all six shots that she faced, as she replaced
Patat in the second half and earned her first collegiate victory.
Raven goalkeeper Brandi Guertin
(Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) took the loss despite saving
nine shots.
Franklin Pierce (3-4, 3-4 NE-10) will be in action on Tuesday, as
they travel to Stonehill for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 4
p.m. Bryant (4-6, 3-5 NE-10) will return home for a league game
versus C.W. Post tomorrow at 2 p.m.
