Volleyball: Ravens Unable to Hold on Against Bridgeport

RINDGE, N.H. (09/21/2024) - The Franklin Pierce University women's volleyball team dropped to the Purple Knights of Bridgeport University for the second time in one week, Saturday afternoon.

RECORDS:

  • Franklin Pierce: 2-6 (0-0 NE10)
  • Bridgeport: 6-3 (1-0 CACC)  

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Both teams exchanged momentum throughout the first set. Jaden Drollinger of Bridgeport contributed multiple kills, assists and a service ace to give Bridgeport the 25-18 win.  

  • In the second, FPU and Bridgeport continued to battle with both teams exchanging kills and errors. Annaka Lindstrom (Dudley, Mass.) contributed to key plays as the setter. Katholiki Koukia (Rhodes, Greece) had several kills for the Ravens. Bridgeport maintained a slight edge throughout the set on kills from Grace Presswood. As the set neared its conclusion, Kennedie Manning (New Braunfels, Texas) on an assist from Lindstrom gave the Ravens the win, 25-22.  

  • Bridgeport started strong in the third set on a service ace from Drollinger and a kill from Madison Johnsma, taking an early lead. FPU responded on a service ace from Kori Garnhart (Colorado Springs, Colorado) and key kills from Martina Spakova (Bratislava, Sovakia) and Koukia kept the set close. Despite back-and-forth action, Bridgeport maintained the momentum and allowed them the win.  

  • In the fourth set, FPU opened with a kill from Spackova. Franklin Pierce took a slight lead, however the Purple Knights fought back. As the set progressed, UB gained momentum with multiple kills from Hailey Jessen and Tomiello. Bridgeport sealed the set with a final kill from Jessen, winnng 25-20.  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:  

  • Spackova led the team in kills with 10.  

  • Garnhart recorded three service aces.  

UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: Franklin Pierce travels to Saint Anselm for their first mid-week game of the season. The match is set for Tuesday, September 24, at 7 PM.
