Volleyball: Drops Two on Day Two of the 2024 Season

MANCHESTER, N.H. (9/7/2024) – Franklin Pierce University Volleyball saw two losses in their final two matches of the SNHU/Saint Anslem Volleyball Opener on Saturday afternoon, falling to Molloy and Saint Anselm to finish the invite.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

GAME ONE: FPU 0 – MOLLOY 3
(24-26, 22-25, 15-25)

  • The Ravens led 10-2 in the opening set on kills from Adrianna Reay (Bristol, Conn.) and Katholiki Koukia (Dodecanese, Greece) until the Lions clawed back. Molloy went on an 11-2 run to lead 23-21.
  • FPU would match the score at 24 until the Lions were able to secure the set victory.
  • The teams went back and forth in the second set, featuring eight tie scores, including as late as 21-21.
  • The score remained close throughout most of the third set, but a six-point run from the Lions gave the Lions a 23-14 advantage.

GAME TWO: FPU 0 - Saint Anselm 3
(18-25, 19-25, 20-25)

  • The Hawks used a 8-0 scoring jolt in set one for the lead for the rest of set one. Four kills from Koukia kept the Hawks in check until they took the set for good.
  • The Ravens came out front off of errors from the Saint Anselm side in set two. Martina Spackova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Koukia held the lead at 5-2.
  • Reay contributed a kill to keep the lead one last time. The Saints would break away and eventually take the set, 25-19.
  • Annaka Lindstrom (Dudley, Mass.) would contribute a kill to tie the Saints at 9-9 in the third set.
  • Five straight kills from three different Ravens brought them the lead at 15-14.

INSIDE THE TOURNAMENT:

  • FPU would see Koukia lead against the Hawks with 12 kills and Spackova against the Lions with nine kills.
  • Lindstrom would contribute 20 assists versus the Lions and 14 on the Hawks.
  • Three Ravens had nine digs against the Hawks.

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: FPU will travel for the Shannon Sullivan Memorial Tournament hosted by Kutztown University next Friday, September 13, 2024. They will face the Golden Bears of Kutztown University and the Purple Knights of University of Bridgeport on Friday and the Falcons of Fairmont State University, Saturday.
