Volleyball Hosts Four Northeast-10 Schools in Spring Fling

RINDGE, N.H. (March 26, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team hosted a 'Spring Fling' event on Saturday afternoon and welcomed four fellow Northeast-10 teams to Rindge for non-traditional season competition. In an informal, scrimmage setting, Franklin Pierce went 5-7 on the day.

The Ravens swept three contests from Saint Anselm and won one each against Stonehill and Massachusetts Lowell.

"It was great to get together with the Northeast-10 schools for friendly competition," said Head Coach Stephanie Dragan. "It is exciting to compare our spring development to theirs."

Freshman middle Katie Jackson (Cherry Creek, Colo.) led the way for the Ravens on the afternoon. She finished with 35 kills (2.91 per set) and hit .242 on the afternoon, despite being the lone middle currently healthy for Franklin Pierce. Jackson added seven blocks defensively.

Freshman outside hitter Lauren Miller (Alexandria, Ind.), a Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team selection in the fall, racked up 32 kills of her own (2.66 per set) and contributed 24 digs defensively.

After sparing action in the fall, freshman Michelle Marguette (North Kingstown, R.I.) took over at libero for a pair of matches on Saturday and chalked up 30 digs.

"It was encouraging to see the development of the freshmen from the fall," said Dragan of the contributions of her first recruiting class. "I am very optimistic for our volleyball team."
