FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.
(August 24, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce
women’s volleyball team dropped its first two matches at the
Nova Southeastern Shark Classic on Friday afternoon, falling to
Minnesota State-Mankato by a score of 3-0 (30-15, 30-17, 30-19) and
to host Nova Southeastern, 3-0 (30-15, 30-20, 30-24), at the
University Center.
In the team’s 2007 opener against Minnesota State-Mankato,
Franklin Pierce could not muster a game off the tough Maverick
squad, falling by a score of 3-0. Junior co-captain Nicole
Buchholz (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) led the Raven effort,
converting seven kills on 17 attempts and adding four block
assists, while sophomore middle hitter Katie Ristow (Miami,
Fla./Miami Killian Senior HS) added five kills, three digs
and a service ace. Allison Kunath and Ashley Nachreiner led the
Mavericks with 11 kills apiece.
The Ravens faced off with another strong opponent in their second
game, falling to the host Sharks, 3-0. Buchholz led the visitors
again on offense with six kills, while junior co-captain
Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo)
bettered her game one total with 16 assists. Junior Emily
Schultz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) and sophomore
Lindsay Burrill (Salem, N.H./Salem) also
contributed for the Ravens with six digs apiece. For Nova
Southeastern, Christina Chubb was the sole player to reach
double-figures in kills with 10 and added two service aces.
Franklin Pierce (0-2, 0-0 NE-10) will return to the court for two
matches on Saturday against Palm Beach Atlantic at 12 p.m. and Lynn
at 3 p.m. Lynn split two games at the NSU Shark Classic on Friday,
while Palm Beach Atlantic dropped its first two games of the event.
