BOSTON (February 20, 2020) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team is in Boston this weekend, with Thursday marking the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, held at the Reggie Lewis Center. Freshman Nyjah Young-Bey (Montclair, N.J.) qualified for a pair of finals on the day, to lead the way for the Ravens.

The women put together three scoring performances across two events to tally six points on the opening day of the two-day meet. The team also had three qualifiers advance to finals on Friday, where they will be assured of collecting points. The Ravens are currently eighth out of 11 teams.

The Ravens picked up four of their points in the field events, where sophomore Stephanie Phoenix (Wallingford, Conn.) took sixth for three points with her 2.85-meter pole vault performance. Along with her was junior Sara Joyce (Pepperell, Mass.), who took eighth for her 2.4-meter vault, to pick up one point.

The remaining two points came in the distance medley relay. A quartet consisting of sophomore Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.), junior Marisa Carbone (Scarborough, Maine), senior Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.), and freshman Destini Hill-Edwards (Paget, Bermuda) took seventh for their 13:04 performance.

Meanwhile, Young-Bey had a strong showing in preliminaries in the sprinting events, as she advanced to Friday's final in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes. She was the second-fastest qualifier in the 400, with a 57.63-second run, and seventh-fastest in the 200 for her 25.69-second time. Franklin Pierce's other finals qualifier was Thompson, who advanced as the eighth-fastest qualifier in the 800 meters, with her 2:22 time.

Four other Ravens were in action on Thursday as well. Junior Lauren Stankiewicz (Naugatuck, Conn.) took 12th in the 5k, for her 20:35 run. Hill Edwards took 16th for her 8.06-second finish in the 60-meter dash, where she was accompanied by senior Kenisha Brannon (Owings Mills, Md.), who took 25th, for her 8.56-second performance. Freshman Stephanie Manu (Boston, Mass.) took 23rd in the 200-meter dash for her 28.81-second finish.
