Telfer Qualifies for Three Finals for Women’s Track & Field on First Day of NE10 Championships

CeCe Telfer

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (February 16, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team was in action on Saturday at the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by American International College, on the campus of Smith College. The Ravens had just one scoring performance on the day, but are set up for success on Sunday, as senior CeCe Telfer (Lebanon, N.H.) qualified for the final of three events, including an NE10 Championships record time in the 60-meter hurdles.

Franklin Pierce finished the day with 2.5 points, which currently leaves the team 12th of the 12 teams at the meet through the first day. At the top of the heap, Stonehill currently leads with 56 points, followed by Assumption in second with 48 points, and Saint Rose in third with 31 points.

The Ravens' 2.5 points on Saturday came courtesy of freshman Stephanie Phoenix (Wallingford, Conn.), who cleared 3.07 meters to finish in a tie for sixth in the pole vault.

It was Telfer who shone the brightest for the Ravens on the first day of the NE10 Championships though. Her day was highlighted by a run of 8.54 seconds in the preliminary heats of the 60-meter hurdles. The mark established a new NE10 Championships record, was the day's top qualifying time, and met the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standard as well.

Telfer was also the fastest qualifier in the 200-meter dash, where she ran a time of 24.47 seconds to post another NCAA provisional mark. Telfer was the second-fastest qualifier in the 60-meter dash, as she won her heat with a time of 7.69 seconds. She advanced through to the final of all three events she participated in.

The NE10 Championships will conclude on Sunday at Smith College.
