Women's Tennis Presents Complete Performance Versus AIC, 7-0
RINDGE, N.H. (9/15/22) – Thursday afternoon marked the opening day of conference competition for the Franklin Pierce women's tennis team, as the Ravens routed American International at home by a shutout score of 7-0.
Women's tennis advances to 2-0 overall on the season, with the Yellowjackets slipping to 0-2 overall with the loss.
In a 3, 2, 1 finishing order, Franklin Pierce claimed a sweeping victory in doubles. In the second match, the Raven pairing of Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) and Aynara Ferraz (Canary Islands, Spain) battled to a 6-0 triumph, with first doubles presenting a 6-2 win for Pierce from senior Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) and graduate Ana Platisa (Belgrade, Serbia). The third doubles match was ruled as a default victory for the Ravens, with no available AIC competition.
Junior Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) kept the ball rolling with a dominant performance at fourth singles, earning a point for the Ravens with a pair of 6-0 set wins. The birds eventually would take complete control over the Yellowjackets with a 3-0 advantage into the singles flight, following back-to-back two-set victories from Liria Loria (6-1, 6-0) and Maria Penalver Aguilo (6-2, 6-1). The afternoon's closest competition was saved for last, as Ana Platisa sealed the deal with 6-3, 6-4 set wins.
Women's tennis will hit the road for a make-up matchup with Saint Anselm on Tuesday, September 20th after the original match had been postponed due to weather. First serve is scheduled for 4PM.
