RINDGE, N.H. (March 21, 2021) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team made it three straight shutouts to open the season on Sunday afternoon, as they whitewashed Saint Anselm at home, 5-0.
With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-0 (3-0 NE10), while Saint Anselm falls to 0-2 (0-2 NE10).
As was the case in each of the team's first two matches, Franklin Pierce took all three doubles matches to pick up the doubles point to open play. At first doubles, graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and sophomore Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) swept away junior Emily Jacy and freshman Elizabeth Janiak, 6-0. It was a 6-0 shutout at third doubles as well, where freshman Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) and graduate student Estela Carra (Logrono, Spain) took care of sophomore Anastasia Kapothanasis and junior Josie Hulbert. At second doubles, it was a 6-2 win for freshman Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) and sophomore Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain) over senior Maikah Bulpitt and senior Dominique Bolduc.
The Ravens then dropped just four games while taking four singles matches to close out the 5-0 victory. At fourth singles it was a clean sweep, as Alvarez Tello dispatched Bolduc, 6-0, 6-0. Loria moved Franklin Pierce to the brink of victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bulpitt at third singles. It was Mor who clinched the match for the Ravens at second singles, via a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Kapothanasis.
Aguilo added the final point, with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Jacy at first singles, while fifth and sixth singles were left unplayed.
The Ravens are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 24 at Southern New Hampshire at 3 p.m.
