Women’s Tennis Blanked at Adelphi, 9-0
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (October 7, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, in Northeast-10 Conference play on the road at Adelphi on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-10 (1-7 NE10), while Adelphi improves to 9-1 (8-1 NE10).
Only able to field four healthy bodies, the Ravens opened the day in a 3-0 hole, as they had to default at third doubles and both fifth and sixth singles.
Adelphi rolled through the six matches which were contested while dropping only one game. Sophomores Kelly O'Donnell (Maywood, N.J.) and Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) got on the board at second singles, but Adelphi junior Samantha Perri and senior Vanja Savic picked up an 8-1 victory.
Senior Rebecca Fakas led the way for Adelphi by winning at first doubles and first singles without dropping a game. She teamed with junior Karen Serina for an 8-0 win at first doubles, before sweeping to an 8-0 win at first singles as well.
The Ravens return to the court on Sunday, Oct. 8, when they travel to New Haven for an NE10 match at noon in West Haven, Conn.
