RINDGE, N.H. (October 4, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on Saturday afternoon, 6-0, by Merrimack in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-8 (1-8 Northeast-10), while Merrimack improves to 6-2 (6-2 Northeast-10).

With wet weather throughout the region on Saturday afternoon, the two teams moved their match indoors. With limited court space available inside, they elected to cut the proceedings short as well, and called it a day after Merrimack amassed a 6-0 advantage.

Freshman Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) put up the best fight for Franklin Pierce on the day, as she went up against Merrimack senior Chealsey Giatrellis at second singles. Rodrigues hung close in the first set, but ultimately suffered a 6-4, 6-2 defeat.

All three Merrimack players who played two matches on Saturday were victorious in both singles and doubles play. Sophomore Grace Messina led the way for the Warriors, as she relinquished just one game while picking up wins in both first doubles and first singles. She teamed with Giatrellis for an 8-1 win at first doubles before sweeping to a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Sunday, Oct. 5, when they travel to Assumption for a Northeast-10 Conference match at noon in Holden, Mass.
