Ravens sweep doubles play

RINDGE, N.H. (April 6, 2012) – Senior Kaitlin Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.), senior Nikki Chalifoux (Lebanon, Conn.) and freshman Leslie Rodgers (Westminster, Md.) all won in both doubles and singles play on Friday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory over Pace in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-8 (2-7 Northeast-10), while Pace falls to 0-11 (0-11 Northeast-10).

The Ravens swept through doubles play to take a 3-0 lead they would never relinquish. At first doubles, Krolikowski joined with sophomore Natasha McCarthy (Rindge, N.H.) to pick up an 8-4 win over Pace junior Simona Mrazova and sophomore Liz Plakhotnaya. At second singles, Chalifoux and junior Melissa Cohen (Queens, N.Y.) breezed past freshman Alena Al-Bochi Mazie and junior Ashley Wnuk, 8-2. At third doubles, Rodgers teamed with senior Mariama Bonetti (New York, N.Y.) to post an 8-3 win over junior Danielle Gore and senior Carla Gross.

Needing just two points in singles play to wrap up the match, the Ravens got three, as Krolikowski, Chalifoux and Rodgers all finished off 2-0 days. At second singles, Krolikowski led Plakhotnaya, 4-1, before the latter retired. At fourth singles, Chalifoux dropped the first set, but rallied to beat Wnuk, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. At sixth singles, Rodgers was dominant against Gross on her way to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Mrazova, Al-Bochi Mazie and Gore picked up the three points for Pace at first, third and fifth singles, respectively.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, April 7, when they remain home to host Adelphi in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 11 a.m.
