NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 10, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated by Merrimack, 9-0, in Northeast-10 Conference play at Merrimack on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-10 (1-10 Northeast-10), while Merrimack improves to 8-7 (8-3 Northeast-10).
Junior Kaitlin Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) and freshman Natasha McCarthy (Rindge, N.H.) put up the biggest fights on the afternoon for the Ravens. In doubles play, they teamed at first doubles, but dropped an 8-4 decision.
In singles play, Krolikowski hung tough with Merrimack freshman Kara Hole at first singles, but ultimately fell, 6-3, 6-4. At second singles, McCarthy nearly squeaked out the first set over junior Courtney Garvey, but was clipped, 7-5. From there, all the momentum went the other way, as Garvey posted a 6-1 win in the second set to take the match.
Five players posted wins in both doubles and singles play in the shutout for Merrimack. Sophomore Erin McMahon lost only one game on the day, as she posted an 8-0 win in the pro set format at sixth singles after teaming with sophomore Katie Veasey for an 8-1 win at third doubles.
