Krolikowski earns point in singles and doubles

RINDGE, N.H. (October 3, 2008) – Freshman Kaitlin Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony’s) won both her singles and doubles match on Friday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University women’s tennis team to a 5-4 victory over New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce.

Krolikowski earned a pair of points for the Ravens by winning in both singles and doubles. First, she teamed with fellow freshman Drew Alexander (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) to earn an 8-4 victory in second doubles over freshman Chelsea Annese (Topsham, Maine/Mount Arart School) and sophomore Leah Smith (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Eastern) of New Haven. Later, Krolikowski defeated Smith 6-3, 6-2 in third singles.

Also notching a doubles point for Franklin Pierce was the team of junior Bianca Lapointe (Plainfield, Conn./Saint Bernard) and sophomore Lauren Smilovich (Meriden, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy), which scored an 8-3 win in third doubles.

Freshmen Jane Duggan (Aurora, Ontario) and Suzana Deronjic (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) captured the remaining Franklin Pierce points with straight-set wins in first and second singles, respectively. Duggan defeated sophomore Kristina Bensley (Matamoras, Pa./Delaware Valley), 6-4, 6-2, while Deronjic downed Noelle Polhemus, 6-2, 6-0.

The Ravens (1-1, 1-1 NE-10) return to the court on Sunday, Oct. 5 when they travel to Saint Michael’s for a Northeast-10 Conference contest at 3 p.m. in Colchester, Vt. New Haven (0-2, 0-2 NE-10) is back in action on Oct. 4 at home against Assumption.
