Swimming Picks up Program’s First Wins, Defeats Colby-Sawyer and St. Joseph’s (Maine)

NEW LONDON, N.H. (October 14, 2017) – The Franklin Pierce University women's swimming team came away winners for the first time in program history on Saturday, as the Ravens picked up a pair of victories in a tri-meet hosted by Colby-Sawyer College. The Ravens posted a 131-105 victory over the host Chargers, while also tallying a 129-115 win over St. Joseph's (Maine).

Franklin Pierce picked up nine event wins on the day. Freshmen Emalee Frady (Anaheim, Calif.), Mary Messina (Rindge, N.H.) and Maggie Miller (Northampton, Mass.) collected a pair of individual wins each.

Frady did her damage in the freestyle events. She took home first place in the 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 5:53.86, and also added a win in the 1000-yard freestyle, with a mark of 12:05.51.

Messina was also victorious in a pair of freestyle events, competing at the sprint distances. In the 50-yard freestyle, she won with a time of 27.20 seconds, while it was a mark of 1:00.52 to get the job done in the 100-yard freestyle.

Meanwhile, Miller was putting together a solid effort in a pair of butterfly events. She came away a winner in both the 50-yard butterfly (29.82) and 100-yard butterfly (1:08.33) on Saturday.

The remaining individual win for the Ravens came courtesy of freshman Emily DeVivo (Berlin, Conn.). She turned in a time of 31.40 seconds to take first place in the 50-yard backstroke.

DeVivo was also a part of a pair of relay victory for the Ravens, with both Miller and Messina contributing to both squads as well. In the 200-yard medley relay, it was a lineup of DeVivo, freshman Danielle Ward (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Miller and Messina which put together a swim of 2:02.73 to win. Meanwhile, in the 200-yard freestyle relay, Miller, Frady, DeVivo and Messina teamed up for a winning time of 1:50.56.

The Ravens return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 21, when they travel to Keene State to take on the host Owls, as well as fellow Northeast-10 Conference member Saint Michael's, in Keene, N.H.
