Bio

Dean O'Leary enters his first season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team in 2017. He will serve as the team's goalkeepers coach.

O’Leary also currently serves as the Technical Director at Asphalt Green Soccer Club in New York, N.Y., where he is responsible for the day-to-day running of the organization's full-sided teams. He oversees the coaching staff to ensure practice sessions are implemented correctly, efficiently and with high energy. O’Leary is also responsible for the club's college recruitment program, where he provides guidance to players and families on a wide range of topics to help with the student-athlete college application process.

Prior to Asphalt Green, O’Leary was a member of the Monroe College women's soccer coaching staff under coach Garbar. As assistant coach, he focused primarily on student-athlete training, game management of the team goalkeepers, and tactical gameplay analysis. He was part of the coaching staff that saw Monroe’s team win the NJCAA National championship in 2014 and a national semifinal appearance in 2015. Twenty of the team's student-athletes advanced to NCAA programs over his three years with the Mustangs, outpacing every other NJCAA program during that same period.

O’Leary has an extensive coaching career to date and has coached at the highest levels within U.S. Soccer. Prior to Monroe College, he spent the previous three seasons coaching at the NCAA Division I level with the men’s soccer program at Manhattan College. During his first year there, he helped the Jaspers to a 5-3-2 conference record in 2013 and a top-four seed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament for just the fifth time in program history. The 17 conference points recorded in 2013 set a new program high.

In addition to his club commitments, O'Leary was also an assistant coach for the program's U.S. Development Academy teams. From 2007 to 2010, he was the Director of Goalkeeping at the Soccer Domain Academy in Montclair, N.J., where he coached a number of high-level goalkeepers who played at collegiate programs, while several represented their national teams at various levels.

Prior to starting his coaching career in 2005, O’Leary spent five years as a professional and semi-professional player in his native England, where he played at the most senior levels of youth and semi-professional soccer in the United Kingdom.

O'Leary holds coaching qualifications from the USSF, UEFA (B License) and the NSCAA (Premier and National Goalkeeping Diploma, Director of Coaching Diploma). He is currently undertaking the NSCAA Master Coach Diploma, the highest NSCAA coaching qualification available.
