HOW IT HAPPENED:
-
The Penman controlled the pace and play throughout the first half as they outshot the Ravens nine to seven in the half. Only four of the nine shots were on goal with senior goalie Emilie Fox (Bridgewater, Mass.) saving every opportunity. With two minutes left in the half, Erin Keyt (Melbourne, Australia) distributed the ball to Aino Martikainen (Järvenpää, Finland) who shot it to the bottom corner of the net, sneaking past the Penman defense and Penman goalie Claudia Keith, giving the Ravens the 1-0 lead at the half.
-
Then fourteen minutes into the second half, after a strong build-up from Gianna DeRose (Brewster, N.Y.) and Ruby Conroy (Hawthorne, N.J.). Conroy made a nice overlap of DeRose and sent it into the box with a one-time cross and found the head of guess who? Claudia Peirce (Carver, Mass.). She then buried it into the back of the net, putting the icing on the cake for the Ravens 2-0 win.
INSIDE THE LINES:
-
Senior goalkeeper Emilie Fox would earn the win, making 10 saves in her 13th shutout of the season.
-
The Ravens were outshot by the Penman 25 to 13.
-
The Ravens had 4 corner kicks while the Penman had 8.
-
The Ravens collected two yellow cards while the Penman picked up one.
UP NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: With today's win, the women's soccer team advances to the Sweet 16. With the Adelphi loss to Jefferson, the Ravens will host the Rams at Sodexo field on Sunday for a chance to win the East Region title.
